About stress and burnout
Burnout is the exhaustion that follows long-term stress, often at work. Common signs are tiredness that sleep doesn't fix, trouble sleeping, low mood or irritability, poor concentration, headaches, digestive upsets and feeling detached from work or family.
In Ayurveda, this is seen mainly as disturbed Vata, the principle of movement, which becomes restless and dry with overwork, irregular meals and lack of sleep. Treatment brings warmth, oil, routine and rest.
If you feel hopeless or unsafe, or have thoughts of harming yourself, please contact a doctor, a local crisis helpline or emergency services straight away. This programme is restorative care, not a replacement for mental health treatment.
How we treat it
Your doctor plans your stay after an unhurried consultation. It usually includes:
- Shirodhara: a steady stream of warm herbal oil, or Takradhara (medicated buttermilk), over the forehead, deeply calming for the mind
- Abhyanga: a daily full-body warm oil massage
- Nasya: herbal oil drops through the nose to relieve heaviness in the head
- Yoga and breathing (Pranayama) every day, and time for rest
- Warm, regular Ayurvedic meals, and a calm daily rhythm with less screen time
- For home: a simple routine for sleep, meals and stress you can keep up

Questions
Is this just a spa holiday? No. Elixir is an Ayurveda hospital. A doctor plans and supervises your treatments, and a doctor is available 24 hours.
I take medicine for anxiety, depression or sleep. Can I come? Yes. Keep taking your prescribed medicines and tell our doctor about them. Any change must be agreed with the doctor who prescribed them.
Can I keep working during my stay? We recommend switching off as much as you can. That's a big part of recovering. If you must, keep it to a short time each day.
How soon will I feel better? Many guests sleep better and feel calmer within the first week. Lasting change depends on the routine you keep at home.
Why at least 14 nights? Your body and mind need time to slow down, respond to the treatments and settle into a new routine. Fourteen nights is our minimum for every programme.
